Midwife Jaya

Hi, I’m Jaya, I have been working as a registered midwife for 9 years in South East Queensland.

I am currently located in the northern Gold Coast providing continuity of midwifery care to women on the Gold Coast, Logan and the Scenic Rim.

I am a home birth mum myself, experiencing the joy of continuity of midwifery care myself when I had my last babe at home in 2008.

My journey to midwifery includes hearing beautiful stories of birth from my own mother and my journey to being a teen mum. I have been so lucky to have such an positive journey through pregnancy and birth prior to becoming a midwife that created a great foundation for my learning and the support I can offer to women.

To me midwifery is witnessing the passage from early pregnancy, birth and into the 4th trimester. Midwifery is having the skills to recognise when things are moving outside of normal with the intension of supporting the journey back to normal. Additionally supporting women and families as they manage and process when their journey has elements that are unexpected. I value the opportunity to be welcomed into such a life changing rite of passage with families. I am particularly passionate about quality information sharing, while being present for woman as they make the big decisions regarding their birth and their baby.

In addition to midwifery related things, I enjoy reading fiction books, watching period dramas and reading a good biography. As a mum to three teenage children I enjoy finding new ways to hang out with them, particularly out in nature- I feel so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world!

“In all cultures, the midwife's place is on the threshold of life, where intense human emotions, fear, hope, longing, triumph, and incredible physical power- enable a new human being to emerge. Her vocation is unique.”
